Garden Living Space

Recently, a client approached us with the brief of bringing their newly landscaped garden ‘in-doors’. After much discussion we decided the key to delivering their needs was to design a space that not only allowed light to spill in through the day, but also reflected a true earthiness and the essence of open space. The client wanted to be able to make the smoothest transition between in-doors and out-doors. The first port of call was access; they needed to be able to walk in and around the space from various points in the house. To achieve this we decide an ‘open-plan’ design would be necessary, so that the feature wouldn’t feel closed off from the rest of the house, or the garden.

We set about designing an Orangerie with solid sidewalls (as to tie it in with the house) and a fully glazed front and roof (to connect it with the patio and garden). We used the same stone as the house to build the foundations and pre-finished hard-wood timbre for the window and door frames and the roofing. We decided on bi-folding doors to ensure the maximum opening into the garden without the need of frames getting in the way.

This project shows the hard work of our craftsmen and fitters, but most of all shows a great example of what can happen when client and manufacturer work together to realize the potential of a living space.

A special thanks to all that worked hard on this project and to the clients for giving us permission to feature their work.
